Alcatraz and Beyond

Since my last two posts on San Francisco were focused on the end of the week, I feel the need to rewind to the beginning of the week...then go forward. Sam and I arrived on Saturday afternoon and after we checked into our hotel we decided to do our first bit of walking...to check the place out that is. We were lucky enough to stay at the Hyatt on the Fisherman's Wharf...right where all of the action is. We were walking along the Wharf glancing into the many shops when a local fisherman was soliciting people for a bay cruise. At this point we already knew that we would be unable to visit Alcatraz. Apparently, we didn't know we should have gotten tickets a few weeks in advance. So we figured the bay cruise would be the next best thing.

The bay cruise was our first taste of how cold San Francisco really was. It was very foggy, and very windy on the bay. The boat went directly below the Golden Gate Bridge and as we looked up, we still couldn't see the entire bridge...it was that foggy. Once we made it back to land, it took me two hours to get warm again. So tonight I think I'll share some pictures of the bridge and some pictures of Alcatraz.

That looks like the cave from Goonies....do I win a prize for seeing that?
